As a result Ian felt the need to do some study into strategy by reading a few books and using Extreme Gammon, analysing games and trying to work out the best plays. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2018 Oliver and Ian set up St Annes Backgammon Club, receiving much appreciated help from the UK Backgammon Association (UKBGF) and from Grandmaster Tim Cross who kindly visited the club to give free tuition and encouragement. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-3 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1008\" data-id=\"316\" src=\"http:\/\/sabgc.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/1000063777-1024x1008.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-316\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sabgc.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/1000063777-1024x1008.webp 1024w, https:\/\/sabgc.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/1000063777-300x295.webp 300w, https:\/\/sabgc.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/1000063777-768x756.webp 768w, https:\/\/sabgc.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/1000063777-310x305.webp 310w, https:\/\/sabgc.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/1000063777.webp 1070w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The club has now grown to close to 30 members and we hold leagues and tournaments including the St Annes Open held in December.Ian particularly enjoys playing live tournaments when he can and playing money game sessions with friends. Ian has learned to keep the stakes low when playing his eldest son.Ian is originally from Durham City and he has lived in St Annes since 1991. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ian was a school teacher for 23 years and he now owns and operates a small cleaning company on the Fylde.
